The Best Christmas TV Specials and Movies, #3

Posted by GoGo Goodie on November 28, 2011.

Welcome back after a wonderful four day Thanksgiving weekend!  We had great food, nice company and I accomplished some of my Christmas stocking stuffer shopping.  Now on to the business at hand and counting down the Top 10 Best Christmas TV Specials and Movies.  We are breaking into the top 3 today!

It's A Wonderful Life

Since this film is so familiar to most, I'll skip the plot and dive into a little bit of it's history...

This 1946 American film classic, produced and directed by Frank Capra, was based on "The Greatest Gift" short story by Philip Van Doren Stern.  Philip originally tried to get his short story published but was unsuccessful.  So, instead he mailed the story to 200 friends in Christmas cards.  As a result, the story came to the attention of an RKO producer who bought the story rights for $10,000 in 1944 hoping Cary Grant would star in the leading role.  The story rights changed hands one more time when Frank Capra bought the rights and cast Jimmy Stewart in the lead.  The rest they say is history!

For those of you in California take a trip to La Quinta Resort in La Quinta California, close to Palm Springs.  It's a beautiful Waldorf Astoria property and it's where Frank Capra wrote the screen play.  During the holidays they transform the main plaza into Bedford Falls and it's magical!

Thanks for stopping by our GoGo Goodie countdown!  Only two more to go.....
