The Best Christmas TV Specials and Movies, #2

Posted by GoGo Goodie on November 29, 2011.

Hopefully you're taking time off from all your Christmas and stocking stuffer shopping to catch up on our countdown of the Top 10 Best Christmas shows.  Today we announce number two and it's another Rankin / Bass production.

The Year Without A Santa Claus

Produced in 1974, this Christmas classic stars Shirley Booth (Mrs. Claus) and Mickey Rooney (Santa).  Set in the 20's the story is about how Santa catches a cold and is encouraged by his doctor to take time off at Christmas.  Santa starts to believe that no one really cares anymore about Christmas and decides he will skip Christmas all together for the year.  Of course he couldn't be more wrong and two of his elves, Jingle and Jangle, set out to find the true holiday spirit and convince Santa he can't miss Christmas.

Yes, this story is cute and the stop motion animation by Rankin and Bass is wonderful, but the main reason this classic is rated so high is due to the Miser Brothers.  Who can resist the charms of the warring brothers, The Heat Miser and The Snow Miser!  We all absolutely love them, especially The Heat Miser, and love to sing along with them.  You know the song....

I'm Mister Green Christmas
I'm Mister Sun
I'm Mister Heat Blister
I'm Mister Hundred and One
They call me Heat Miser,
What ever I touch
Starts to melt in my clutch....

Well I'm getting carried away a little, but I can't wait to watch this one again this year with my kids!  Stay tuned to the GoGo Goodie countdown as we reveal our number one pick!
